Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 2026
1. Who We Are
Crossed Quest is operated by Genoworks. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that data.
2. Data We Collect
Anonymous identity: A random ID is generated in your browser and stored in local storage. No account registration or email address is required to play.
Google Sign-In (optional): You may choose to sign in with Google to preserve your contributions across devices. We request only the minimal openid scope. We receive and store only Google's opaque user identifier (a pseudonymous number) — we do not receive, request, or retain your name, email address, profile picture, or any other Google account data.
Display name: If you choose to set a display name after signing in, that name is stored and shown on leaderboards and your profile. It is optional and can be changed or removed at any time.
Game contributions: Words placed, clues written, and puzzles built are stored server-side and attributed to your pseudonymous identifier and display name (if set).
Usage data: Standard server logs (IP address, request path, timestamps) may be retained for security and operational purposes.
3. Third-Party Services
Sign-in is handled by Google OAuth 2.0. When you choose to sign in, your browser communicates with Google's servers subject to Google's Privacy Policy. Genoworks receives only the opaque identifier described above.
4. How We Use Your Data
Data is used solely to operate the Service — rendering the game board, tracking contributions, and displaying leaderboards. We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties for marketing purposes.
5. Cookies & Local Storage
We use browser local storage to persist your anonymous identity and font preference between sessions. If you sign in with Google, a secure HTTP-only session cookie is set to keep you signed in. No third-party tracking cookies are set.
6. Data Retention
Game contributions are retained for as long as the Service is active. Server logs are retained for up to 90 days. You may request deletion of your contributions by contacting us.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data associated with your identifier. Contact us to exercise these rights.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy on this page with an updated date.
